Packing List Recomendations
- Planning
- Get your check and trip planning form in early.
- Talk with your pilot; he or she needs to know, as far in advance as possible, your weight and that of your luggage and any equipment you are bringing.
- Find your passport or birth certificate (driver's license is not accepted) and put it where you can easily reach it during the trip, not in your luggage.
- Make a list of what you are taking.
- Packing
- Pack into a back pack or small soft sided bag, maximum weight 10 lbs.
- We fly into Mexico in small planes. Besides passengers, we are carrying medical supplies and equipment. Any luggage, therefore, must be squeezed into available space.
Make sure your luggage is of the squeezable variety; sturdy but soft sided, easily filled under a seat or tucked into a small corner.
- Clothing
- 2 sets of work clothes-scrubs or casual pants and shirts
- Extra underwear and socks.
- Sturdy, comfortable shoes.
- Sweater and or Warm, lightweight jacket
- Mexico will be hot (85-90F)in May, June, and October, with cooler evenings. Winter can be cold (35-45F. Mexico is a conservative country; please dress accordingly.
- Toiletries and Medicine
- 2 days supply in small containers
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Soap
- Moisturizing cream
- Shave cream/Razor
- Tooth brush/Paste/Floss
- Comb/Brush
- Nail file/Scissors
- Aspirin or other analgaesic
- Dramamine, Imodium, or kaopectate
- Band aids
- Anti-histamines
- Bug repellent.
- Prescription medication you ordinarily use (with prescription, if possible, since drugs of any sort may be checked on re-entry to the states).
- Other Stuff
- Money. You will need 370 pesos for entry and exit visa fees.
Cash of $150-350 in small bills. American dollars, in small denominations (ones, fives and tens) are acceptable most places in Mexico, so you won't need
pesos except for the Visa Fees.
- Hotels are $35-50/room/night and many volunteers share rooms
- Passport or birth certificate
- Credit Card for emergency -Visa or MC. or ATM Card
- Small plastic bottle of water for brushing teeth, etc.
- Something to read on the plane (its a 3 to 5 hour trip).
- A small blanket or afghan for winter plane rides and for cold hotels.
- Earplugs or Ask Pilot if they have Headsets (small planes are noisy).
- Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
- Bug repellent.
- Pocket calculator.
- English-Spanish dictionary (with medical terms if possible).
- Handy Wipes.
- Silk or cotton cocoon to sleep in (optional)
- Small travel alarm.
- Washcloth, small towels, toilet paper, sink stopper (some of the small Mexican hotels are not Ritz Carltons)
- Small notebook.
- Mexico maps and other reference material.
