Liga Mission Fact Sheet
WHO: Physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, audiologists, interpreters, pilots,
techs, assistants––anyone with an altruistic spirit willing to donate time, energy, and expertise to help impoverished people with medical and dental problems in rural
Mexico.
FROM: Most airports in Southern California, and some locations in Central and Northern California, in privately-owned
aircraft carrying 4-6 persons each.
TO: Three clinic locations––El Fuerte, El Carrizo and San Blas––in the state of Sinaloa. Approximately 700 miles south
east of LA.
WHEN: First Friday of each month from October through June (9 times per year). Planes leave early Friday morning
and return on Sunday late afternoon.
MEMBERSHIP: Volunteers must be members of Liga International. A basic membership is $50.00 annually, or $75.00 for Household.
(Larger categories are also available.) A special student membership for full time students is available for just $25.00
OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES: Volunteers share cost of the flight for the airplanes and pay for their own food and lodging.
The shared flight expenses are $240.00 (from Southern Calif.) or $300.00 (from Northern Calif.) or $200 (Arizona).
You will also need 370 pesos for entry and exit visa fees.
We ask our volunteers to contribute a small tax deductible $25 Mission Support donation when they go on a trip.
The funds must be received by the Liga office (address above)by the 15th of the month prior to the trip.
Make check payable to Liga International. Payments via Visa MasterCard are preferred and available on our website.
100% of flight cost monies are forwarded to the pilot to help offset his fuel, oil and other costs. Hotel rooms vary from $30 to $75 per night and food is about
the same as the states. Most volunteers share a room to keep expenses down. Liga is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and contributions and expenses are tax
deductible.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you must cancel a designated trip, you must notify the Liga office 7 days prior to departure
date (by the Thursday of the week before the trip) and your money will be rolled over to another trip or refunded less $15.00. If you give less notice,
your money will be rolled over only if the seat is filled.
If the pilot has to go with an empty seat, your money will pay for
that seat as intended.
I.D.: Current Passport + Visa (Temporary Visitor) or Green Card (Permanent Resident) are the only acceptable forms of
I.D. for International air travel & re-entry into the U.S. If a Temporary Visitor, proof of planned future exit upon re-entry to the U.S. is generally requested upon
re-entry to the U.S. (This may be in the form of an e-ticket itinerary or paper tickets).
LUGGAGE: Travel very light- 10lbs -small soft luggage (duffel bag or back pack preferred). Casual clothes, insect repellent
perhaps a camera. No need to take bottled water, it is available in Mexico.
